Regenology were delighted to install a solar time-lapse camera for specialist housing developer Mulbury back in 2016. This was used to film the construction of a new high-quality apartment scheme on the corner of Port Street and Great Ancoats Street in Manchester, now called the Astley. The apartment scheme is on the edge of Manchester’s Northern Quarter and close to the revitalised New Islington area. It provides 135 apartments ranging from studios to three bed units with private on-site amenity space at the seventh-floor roof top level. It was designed by Manchester-based Tim Groom Architects and was Mulbury’s first venture in the private rented sector.
The new apartment building was constructed on the site of an old pub, the Astley Arms, and developers found remains and artefacts from the pub during the demolition and excavation process! This was the inspiration for the name given to the development, and is a fitting reminder of the area’s history.
We were approached by Mulbury to help them capture the build process using time-lapse photography. The perfect location was found for a camera, and as no power was available a solar time-lapse camera was deployed. This allowed Mulbury to monitor progress on-site from anywhere, using the web link we provided. At the end of the project we created a stunning time-lapse film, which was used by media agencies to promote the completion of the apartments, in articles such as this one.
