Manchester Enterprise Academy (MEA) is a mixed secondary school and sixth form with academy status. It is located in South Manchester in the Wythenshawe area providing facilities for over 1050 students between the ages of 11-18. MEA is recognised as a centre of excellence, and is one of the top 100 most improved schools in England.
When the MEA needed more space to accommodate the city’s growing number of pupils, they asked Willmott Dixon to create the Durie Building, a new teaching block to accommodate 500 extra students. This represented an increase of 40% on the school’s existing offering.
The Durie building provides a new theatre, so students can perform in a specialist space. It has new art, fashion and music rooms to enhance the creative learning spaces and is also equipped with brilliant new spaces for teaching English and Science. As well the extra teaching space, the school also created a new full size 3G sports pitch and refurbished the existing changing rooms. And all of this was completed while the existing school remained open and in operation!
Regenology installed two time-lapse cameras to film the construction process, and created a time-lapse film once the project was complete in September 2017. By using two time-lapse cameras the whole site can be captured from different angles, giving the site team a better view of the area. They used the web links provided to see near real-time images of the building work, with the added benefit of being able to access these images from any Internet enabled device.
