What is Communal Internet?
Communal Internet is a solution offered by Regenology Ltd. to help close the "Digital Divide" between communities. It is a way of delivering Internet access to households through a "shared aerial system” which they currently have in place. Shared aerial systems are also referred to as "Integrated Reception Systems" (IRS) or "Master Antenna Television" (MATV).
Shared aerial systems are commonly fitted to high rise and low rise blocks, hotels and other Multi Dwelling Units (MDUs). They allow multiple households to receive television, radio and satellite TV signals all through 1 aerial and dish located on the roof of the block.
Utilising these shared TV aerials that are already fitted to hundreds of thousands of properties in the UK Regenology Ltd. can help you to deliver high speed Internet connection to your residents or tenants without high costs.
How Does Communal Internet Work?
What you already have in place:
- Typically a television aerial and satellite dish are already installed on the roof of the building.
- These are connected to a series of amplifiers and switches, which split the signal and deliver it to each household through coaxial cabling.
- In the residents’ flat a faceplate with 3 holes is already located in the main living room. The three holes allow the resident to install a television set, radio and Sky satellite box.
What you need to add:
- Our system works by simply adding a control unit to allow an Internet connection to be shared between up to 30 residents per unit.
- Each flat is then issued with a modem which is easy to install and can be done by the residents themselves without the need for an engineer or any configuration.
- The modem is then connected to the TV aerial socket in the residents’ flat, with a bypass cable fitted so they can still receive TV signals as normal.
- The modem has 2 cat5e Ethernet ports on it to which the resident can connect devices such as:
- PC's
- Laptops
- Games consoles
- IPTV set top boxes
- VOIP telephones
- Modems only need to be issued to residents who require the service. All other residents will not notice any difference to their TV or Sky system.
- If you are a client who would like to enable residents without personal computers to be able to access the Internet through their TV sets please go to our IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) section to find out more about our IPTV System. Please Click Here.
