Regenology awarded funding from Technology Strategy Board
Regenology has just been awarded funding from the Technology Strategy Board as part of its "Feasibility Studies for Digital Britain" programme.
The Technology Strategy Board recently ran a series of competitions. Regenology entered the Feasibility Studies for Digital Britain competition. This competition received an exceptionally high number of applications. From 580 applicants Regenology was one of the successful applicants to receive funding.
Our bid was to provide broadband services over Integrated Reception Systems (IRS) systems. Using existing infrastructure to provide broadband services, it is likely that the services would be more competitively priced compared to current broadband providers. This would help reduce the digital divide where cost is an issue.
Over the past 8 years there has been a huge investment made in Integrated Reception Systems (IRS) for delivering digital terrestrial and satellite television signals to households. Most local authorities and many private landlords with multi dwelling units have installed IRS equipment in their properties. This has been driven by the need to prepare for the Digital TV Switchover, which is due to be completed in 2012. We intend to utilise the existing infrastructure provided by the IRS equipment to deliver IP based services directly into peoples homes. Services like this do exist in several other countries, but not in the UK. This is because the frequency ranges available on UK IRS equipment is restricted as much of the available spectrum is taken up by BSkyB. We aim to utilise the available frequencies to deliver IP based services.
